Photographing (toy) Hippos

One week into uni and it’s like we never left. As well as Business of Design, our other module is Imaging 2. The imaging 2 module focuses on the interpretative and narrative potential of both still and moving imagery. Our first submission is a series of 6 photographs focusing on an object. I chose a little hippo toy. Through composition we have to convey the following themes – Connected, Separted and Powerful. The first two represent connected, the next two separated and the last two powerful. My favourite of the six is the fifth photograph, I think it conveys the sense of power quite well.

Humorous note – The person developing these thought at first the hippos were real… When I explained they were small toys he said “Ahh, that makes more sense, especially when I saw one standing on top of the others”
